The thought of moving out of your home that you have lived in for over 40 years can be daunting. Choosing a retirement community that is the right fit for you can also be a laborious task. What is fortunate is that there are many options to choose from today. New communities are popping up all over Fairfield County, so, how do you decide which one is right for you? Plan for the future, even when that can be hard to think of while you are independent, active and feel young!
When researching communities, you will find that there are many assisted living and memory care communities and there are larger communities called Continuing Care Retirement Communities. Here in Fairfield County there are only three Continuing Care Retirement Communities: The Watermark at 3030 Park, Edgehill in Stamford and Meadow Ridge in Redding. What makes a CCRC different? In a CCRC, Continuing Care Retirement Community, you have four different neighborhoods: Independent Living, Assisted Living, Memory Care and Skilled Nursing and Short term Rehabilitation. No matter what your future holds you may stay in a CCRC for the rest of your life. In other words, you have the same “Home” for the rest of your days. In a CCRC you will find that “Independent Living” is true independent living. Only in a CCRC will you have a full kitchen with a stove, large refrigerator and a dishwasher. You have the flexibility to still cook your favorite recipe and bake your favorite pie if that is something you enjoy doing.
You may also notice in your research that in a CCRC the amenities are far superior than in a small Assisted Living community. You will have multiple dining venues, indoor swimming pools, full service hair salons, auditoriums, libraries and more property to explore with walking trails. Due to the continuum of care, you will find the residents to be less transient which means more opportunities to meet and keep new best friends!
When you move to a retirement community the service is amazing where everything is done for you which means you have more time to enjoy life. Now let’s talk about the sophisticated programming. Here at The Watermark, we offer a variety of interesting activities from wine tasting to Art History lectures to World Religion classes to Learning how to speak French if that is something you want to do. There are excursions to Manhattan, local theatres, the symphony and even trips to Newport, Rhode Island!
Don’t let life pass you by, do your research and find your new home and make sure it’s the right fit. We’ll help make it an easy transition because at the end of the day, it’s all about how you can make the most of your retirement life!
